FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions clients have regarding electrical service

What makes a circuit breaker trip?

Sometimes they get overloaded. That is the most common reason. Having too many things plugged into it or turned on at the same time. It could also be a short circuit, bad wiring in the unit or in another area of the home.

What is a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter

a GFCI is a type of breaker that provides extra protection from shock. It can see if any currents, even really low currents are leaking out of a circuit. If a GFCI senses this leakage into the ground it will de-energize the circuit. You can still be shocked by this but it will be a lot less powerful. You find these in many kitchens and bathrooms.

How come light bulbs burn out so fast?

It’s possible you are overdoing the wattage of your light fixture. Fixtures should have a label inside that shows the wattage. If you don’t see a label then it might be a good idea to replace that particular piece. Don’t go over the recommended 60 watts that most ceiling light fixtures recommend. You can also look into special bulbs that resist vibration. These are good for locations like patios and front entrances where there are lots of slamming doors and other vibrations that can lessen the life of the electrical connection of the bulb.

What is involved in electrical trouble shooting?

Sometimes getting to the bottom of an electrical issue requires us to run many tests and cut into areas to look at the current wiring. We need to find out whats not working, what may have caused the problem, test and examine your wiring and find the problem and then put together a proper plan to repair or replace whatever electrical component has the issues. Any details you have about the current problem can give us an idea over the phone before we come out for the actual estimate and inspection.

How long does it take to get an estimate?

Sometimes the process is very basic and we’ll have a price for you on the spot. Sometimes it can take a little longer depending on the tests we have to run and if the problem runs deep it can take a few hours to find the problem. We will let you know the process before any work is done. We will provide the best estimate we can on your current project and be upfront with you about the turn around time and parts and labor needed.

How many techs does it take to do a service call?

In most cases one electrician should be enough for diagnostics and estimates on work needed. Once the work is identified and scheduled multiple technicians may be sent out to complete the work.

How can I get a price on my electrical project?

Give us a call. If we can answer any questions over the phone and if the project is a common home electrical fix then we can give a quote over the phone. If we need to schedule a time to meet up for an in home estimate or provide on site inspections we can schedule that also.
